Darko

Experimentation using lines and curvature's to describe the contours of the character's features. Darko is meant to represent a black hole, I chose this because black holes are mysterious, scary and devastatingly powerful. The attributes of Dark eye's ultimate enemy

Aquatint

10.12.09 was an interesting date indeed. My group had an etching workshop and we spent the day experimenting with aquatinting and going through the various processes. I didn't come prepared with a linear drawing, which in a way worked out. I decided to recreate the focal point in Michelangelo's 'Creation of Adam'. I was very impressed with the result and the group produced some gems. Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to aquatinting.
(The dodgy webcam pictures are the result of a lack of batteries which keep my decent camera alive)

Shannon Finley

Finley's work's are a universe of wonders. His acrylic abstractions such as 'Tech Romancer' (above) appear other worldly. Definitely out there.

Jamie Hewlett

Jamie Hewlett has been described as "...the definitive face of post-punk British pop culture - edgy, angular and out there. " Renowned for his comic Deadline that more importantly spawned Tank Girl. Hewlett was influenced by the cartoons of Chuck Jones, also an avid reader of the magazine 'Heavy Metal' which introduced him to artists such as Jean Giraud. As a young boy he stumbled across Hayao Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle in the Sky a glance at japanese anime, Hewlett's Gorillaz video for 'Feel Good Inc' shows similarities, such as the flying windmills. Witnessing Blade Runner, Fantastic Planet and The Exorcist gave him the ammunition he needed by the end of secondary school. He has recently re-created an old chinese tale originally titled 'Monkey King,' written by Wu Ch'eng-en in the 1500's, based around Chinese fables, fairy tales, legends, superstitions, popuar beliefs, monster stories as well as whatever the author could find in the Taoist and Buddhist religions.
I've had an idea along similar territory as Hewlett, a journey which involves various characters titled 'Dark Eye'. Dark Eye is the main character, his ambition is to become infinitely powerful and immortal in a futuristic odyssey appearing at different points in time and space in various dimensions.

I had a workshop in the print room the other week and this was one of the pieces I managed to create. I need money. I dont want a job. I put the picture on ebay. No one bought it.
